bp and EnBW sign Morven Option to Lease Agreement

Together, bp and EnBW have signed the Option to Lease Agreement for Morven with Crown Estate Scotland (CES). This is the next step in developing Morven and delivering 2.9 GW generating capacity in the North Sea – enough to power more than 3 million homes.

The signing of the Option to Lease Agreement reaffirms our commitments to Scotland. We’ll support the build out of infrastructure, including ports, harbours and shipbuilding in Scotland. Make Aberdeen our hub for remote operating control of the joint UK portfolio and bp’s global operations and maintenance centre of excellence for offshore wind to generate new jobs and accelerate a just transition.

What’s next for Morven?

Bp and EnBW will be working to further develop the project, conducting environmental studies and surveys to prepare for the consenting approvals. Our geophysical surveys start next week. We are also awaiting the outcome of the Holistic Network Design (HND) and the confirmed timing of our grid connection. In the meantime, we’re also engaging with the relevant stakeholders and communities – including initiatives to support a developing supply chain. We now have over 500 companies registered on our supplier portal.

  • One rotation of a wind turbine will power the average UK home for an entire day

  • Bp and EnBW are developing Morgan and Mona in the Irish Sea and combined with Morven these projects are expected to generate enough energy to power over 6 million homes
