Morgan and Morecambe Offshore Wind Farms submit Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) scoping request for transmission assets
Following receipt of a Direction under Section 35 of the Planning Act 2008 from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the projects (as joint applicants) have submitted a request for a Scoping Opinion to the Planning Inspectorate, in accordance with Regulation 10 (1) of The Infrastructure Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations) 2017 (as amended) (‘the EIA Regulations’).
This request relates to the transmission assets of Morgan and Morecambe Wind Farms which includes shared offshore and onshore export cable corridors, onshore substations, and onward connection to the National Grid electricity transmission network at Penwortham, Lancashire. The transmission assets will be the subject of one application for development consent.
The aim of the transmission assets scoping request is to:
Identify potential environmental impacts associated with the construction, operation and maintenance and decommissioning of the transmission assets;
Provide information on the proposed approach to the environmental impact assessments; and
To request feedback on the above from relevant stakeholders, at an early stage.
What’s next?
The Planning Inspectorate will now ask consultees for their feedback on the EIA Scoping Report before issuing their Scoping Opinion to the projects. In accordance with Regulation 10 (6) of the EIA Regulations, the Inspectorate must adopt a Scoping Opinion within 42 days of receiving the scoping request.
